What is a genre?
Genre is any form or type of communication in any mode with socially-agreed-upon conventions developed over time. Example of genres are horror, adventure/ romance and many more.
Difference between print and digital magazines?
What is a magazine?
A magazine is a periodical publication generally published on a regular schedule containing a variety of content. They are generally financed by advertising by a purchase pride by prepaid subscriptions or by a combination of the three.
The different type of magazines that i know.
Just like a physical magazine has its own feel and smell digital magazines carry an advantage unique to its platform interactive features. You can't drop audio or video media into a physical magazine nor can you track analytics based on how your readership interacts with an issue.

Sport magazine
This is a sport magazine and the cover is a picture of a football player. The gender this magazine is for would be men this is because it is mainly men that are into sports and also because it is about football which is more of a sport that men like so it could relate to them more.
The age could be mostly be any age but i would say from 13 and up this is because there are a lot of boys that enjoy football not only watching it but playing it as well because they are energetic as well so playing a sport is something they would enjoy.
The ethnicity could be any there is no specific ethnicity for this type of magazine all ethnicity can relate to this if they enjoy football.
Fashion magazine
This is one type of a fashion magazine there are many types of fashion magazine this is just one example fashion magazines are the most common type of magazines because they are they most popular.
The gender this magazine would be aimed for would be females this is because it is mainly females that care about how they look and how they look in something men do care about stuff like that but females care about it more that is why i feel like this is aimed towards females.
The aged i would say this magazine this is aimed for would be 15 or above but i would still say that it is aimed for mostly teens because teens like to look at these models in a nice dress and admire the dress and the model but not only teens it could also be females in their early 20 that want to be like models so look at these type of magazines.
The ethnicity could be any type the model on this magazine is African American but there are also many different models on fashion magazines that are different ethnicity
Cooking magazine
Cooking magazines aren't really that popular compared to the other magazines above but it is still a type of magazine.
The gender that these type of magazines are aimed for is females i say this because it is normally females that are more into cooking and they cook to provide for their family but it can also be aimed at males that are interested in cooking as well.
The age i would say this is aimed for is 16 and above it could be younger but i personally think that this would be the age that the cooking magazines would aim for i say this because this is normally when people start to cook when younger it won't be maggiore dishes but the main age i think would be young 20 because this is when people start becoming independent and don't really on their parents support.
The ethnicity this type of magazine would be aimed for would be any ethnicity but it can depend on the type of food they are showing on the magazine some food would favour some ethnicity for example if the magazine was focused on jollof rice there would be a specific ethnicity target which would be black or African American.
Health magazine
The health magazine is another popular type of magazine which many people do look at.
The type of gender this type of magazine would be aimed for could be either gender this is because there are many health magazines for different genders some for females and some for males so there really isn't any specific genre you just take the type of health magazine that suits you the most.
The age i think health magazines are aimed for are people from the age 14 and above i say this because when you are in your teenage years that is when you start to realise more about your body and how you can change it but this is not the best audience for age it would be in you'r 20 this is because this is when both females and males both care about the type of body they have and how they can change it.
The ethnicity for these types of magazine could be any ethnicity you don't have to be a certain ethnicity to enjoy this type of magazine and i am sure that they don't aim for a specific ethnicity when they publish these magazines.
Art magazine
A art magazine is another type of magazine people might take interest in it is different from the others.
The gender this type of magazine could be aimed for could be both male and females art doesn't really suite a specific gender because all genders can love and appreciate art.
The age i think this type of magazine would be aimed for would be from age 26 and up i say this because younger people don't really look at art or look into so they won't care about it like the older generation does.
For art magazines the ethnicity could be any ethnicity because you don't have to be a specific ethnicity to understand the art they are showing in the magazine.

Demographics- the intended age for this type of magazine can really be an age because sport is something everyone can enjoy because it has so many different types of sports but i would say the it is intended for 14 years plus because young people like a lot of sport and are more active around that age and for the older people they might just enjoy watching it and keeping updated.

Denotation
What you can see in the magazine is a very popular female artist called Nicki Minaj that is the first thing you will see when looking at the magazine the other thing you will notice is the use of the color pink this could connate to females feminism and way more stuff not only the background is pink but so is some of the words are also in pink since almost everything is in pink this could relate to Nicki's feminist side.
Mise-en scene
The type of costume that Nicki is wearing looks like a zebra patterned outfit that is really tight on her this could be because they want the readers to see her body as well which links with the male gaze theory to attract the male readers in the magazine.
Nicki has some jewellery on her which don't match with her outfit but is probably there to make the outfit look more nice one of them says icon with could suggest that she is one of a kind.
There isn't really much you can say about the setting of the magazine since it is just a pink background but this could link in with her feminist side because pink is a colour that links in with females.
The format of the magazine was made really well one pro of the magazine format is the size of the main image when i saw the magazine the image was the first thing that stood out to me the fact that the main image is a popular artist makes it easy to get more attention towards the magazine a con from the magazine is that i don't really like the position of the main image even tho the image is good in size the position could be better if it was in the centre the image is more towards the right than the centre.
Another pro from the magazine format is the colour scheme used it is mainly coved in pink which is colour linked in with girls and it is clear to see that the magazine is aimed at females the choice of who was going to be the main image and the topic everything would really stand out towards a female which i think they done really well. A con would be the outfit that they picked the outfit itself isn't bad but i feel like it could be better if it matched with the rest of colour scheme.
Typography
The type of fonts was a lot of bold fonts an example is the head-line it was bold and lard this is good because it can catch the attention of the readers they also use very formal language in the magazine the heading is in the colour pink which helps it blend in with the rest of the colours because most of the font colours are pink an example is stand-first which is in pink as well and it is bold and large which is used to show the start of the paragraph and where you are supposed to start the magazine most magazines use this i think it is good because it adds more design than if they just write it with a regular letter. I really liked the colour scheme the magazine used i know that it was mainly just pink so it looked basic it would still look nice the way everything matched and it all came together her lip stick matched with the background the way the numbers for each paragraph was coloured in ink t match he background really made it match and look well. The cover lines for this magazine didn't really stand out as much as the other stuff in the magazine it had a normally font to and was in black so that we could read it clearly.
Target audience
The target audience this type of magazine is aimed would be teens and above this is because it is a lot of teenagers and young adults that listen to Nicki Minaj. The magazine would be aimed at females this is because of the amount of pink used the colour pink is a colour that is more for girls than boys so the use of the colour pink helps bring in the female readers.
Denotation
What you can see in this magazine cover is a very serious looking female almost made to look intimidating to the people viewing the magazine cover the effect this has it can leave you curious about why they made that the front page making you want to explore the magazine more.

You cant really see her costume to well but you can see a black leather jacket she is wearing this matches with the black background and could be made to give mysterious vibes for the magazine cover because of how much black is in the cover

you don't really see any props in this image because the photo is taking in a medium close up so the rest of her body is cut of

When looking at the magazine you cant anything to tell you where the setting is because the background is just all black so you get no clue as to where the setting is
NVC
The facial expression of the female on the magazine cover is very intimidating she is giving the people that are viewing the magazine a cold stare.
Lighting
The lighting from this more to the side of low-key lighting there aren't really any bright colours used except in the text which is used so they can read it but other than that it is very low-key lighting

Masthead
The masthead in magazine covers a meant to be huge so they stand out but this masthead is larger than others and the colour choice for the masthead because there is a lot of low-key light a bright colour like red was a good choice to make it even stand out more
cover-lines
The cover lines in the magazine really stand out as well because of the size of the cover lines it is bigger than most cover lines this is also used to stand out but maybe to make it easy to read
choice of fonts
The choice of fonts used in the magazine where very bold fonts very sharp fonts and they used this type of font for every text on the magazine cover this was to match everything up and make it go together and look good.
Colour scheme
The colour scheme they used here was they went for very dark colours some other the colours where bright but those where the text that they wanted to stand out they didn't use white but grey to try make it as dark as possible but still readable
Target audience
The target audience this magazine is aimed at would really be hard to find but this magazine is about music and it is female artist so it is mainly aimed at females that listen to her type of music the age for this type of magazine could really be any age but i would go for 16 and up because some teenagers might listen but mainly people in their early 20
format discussion
The format of the magazine is different in a way but still like other magazine an example would be that the main image is in the middle of the magazine and the masthead is at the top the magazine this is how most magazine would position their masthead and main image and the barcode as well is positioned at the bottom right of the page like other magazines barcodes are normally at the bottom of the page so the layout for the magazine is like other magazines.

What you can see in this image is a rugby player who looks like he is playing in really bad conditions thunder hitting the ground causing the ground to crack

The costume in this magazine cover is the costume of a rugby player this is because of the type of magazine it is clearly about sport mainly rugby so it isn't a surprise that the costume is an rugby outfit
Props
The main prop in this magazine is the football the player is holding this prop matches with the theme of the magazine it is all about football so it only makes sense for the him to be holding a football if he was holding something like a book it would look weird this prop makes everything come together and shows that it is a sports magazine.
setting
The setting is hard to see but the main guess would be that he is on a football field but you can see more you can see that the weather is bad there is thunder coming down and hitting the ground looks like the weather is really bad in the magazine cover to really make it clear that it is a football field you can see the lights that they have at a football field.
NVC
The body position of the player makes it look like he is running this could be because of the thunder or because there might be more players the body position of the player is really good as it makes it look like he is playing the stop and not just standing still it brings more imagination into the viewers eyes.
Lighting
The lighting in this magazine looks like a mix of low-key and high-key lighting it doesn't look that bright but it isn't dark either it is in the middle but more to the low-key lighting because it doesn't look like he is in a day time setting for them to use low-key lighting
Typography
The typography used in this magazine was really well made and looks really good to the reader the way they blend some of the text with red and black makes it look go because it givings it a nice design compared to other magazine covers with just one colour like black and no design on it and the word sport on that magazine not only has that blend from red to black but is also looks like it is cracking and it is missing pieces this could go to show how rough the sport but it also makes the magazine look better because of all the designs in the magazine it makes it stand out compared to other magazines. They went for very bold fonts this helps it stand out and makes it easy to read
Target audience
The target audience i think this magazine is aiming for is people that like rugby this could be for a lot of people of different ages but i feel like more to the male side because it is normally males that like the rough type of sports that is why the main image in the magazine is a male and not a female because if she was a female it might seem like it was aimed at the female fans of rugby the fact the person in the main image is a professional male rugby player could mean that the magazine wants to reach the male fans of the sport

The format for the magazine was like most magazine with the main image in the middle and the masthead at the top and the cover-lines to the side of the paper and some information at the bottom just like most magazine the words are around the main image they are not in the middle blocking the main image one thing they done differently that i like is the way they made it look like the words are scattered around the main image instead of most of the text being on one side of the page there is some on one side and some on the other there isn't to much on one side they made it look pretty even.

What you can see in this magazine cover is a man looking like he is at a party and he has dressed up smartly in a suit with some drinks as well

The costume that he is wearing is a suit he is dressed up really smartly and looks like he is ready for a smart party the costume could also represent wealth because it is normally people that are rich that wear suits to show people that they are in the upper class list.
Props
The props in this image are the bottle and the cup these props can be used to show that someone is at a party because normally at a party there are drinks so this could show that he is at a party but he might just want to have a good time and just drink by himself

The setting looks like it is in a bright white room and it has balloons in the room this could be a photo room but the balloons could represent a party this room could be anything a living room bedroom and more
NVC
The NVC of the male makes him look confident and strong his body position the way he posed for the camera shows signs of a confident and strong male his facial expression him not looking at the camera shows how relaxed he is and how laid back he is
lighting
The lighting used is high-key lighting the room looks bright and there are no dark shadows you can see his shadow that is how you know high-key lighting is being used it is not natural light so they position the light so that it hits him and looks brighter
Typography
The type of typography used in this magazine is really small compared to the other magazine to other magazine covers this makes it look neat but it is also hard to read they have some words that are bold and big but those are the stuff like the headline and drop capital which is normally stuff that are already meant to be big and bold the way they type the headline as well they made it look like it was reflecting of a mirror and they wrote the headline again upside down to make it look better and add better design to the magazine
Target audience
The target audience for this magazine would be males aged 20 to 30 i say this because rick ross is a old school rapper so he wasn't a rapper of this generation i also feel like it is more to the male side because rick ross was a hip-hop/rap artist which is a music genre that is normally more to the male genre type of music. The magazine it self is talking about rick ross success so it will also be aimed for rick ross fan base and he has a large fan base so it also helps bring in more people because he might be a lot of peoples favorite rapper
format discussion
The format for this magazine has most stuff that a double paged magazine would have a main image, headline, drop capital, and a bye-line and the positioning of these magazine design are in places where you would normally see it like the bye-line would normally be at the bottom of the page and it is and the main image is normally on the left side of a double paged magazine the one thing that could be considered different is the text in the magazine how it is all stuffed on one side of the page and the main image has its own side sometimes some magazine cover put some of the texts around the main image

This was the first change i had to make when putting the image on the canvis it came out wrong and it was sideways so to change it i had to press comand d to be able to move the image around so this helped me to put in the right postion
If i didnt do this my the magazine cover would come out wrong and people wouldn't be able to look at it properly since it is sideways

For this one i had to change the canvis size so that i can make it look like a front page magazine cover this was inportant because if i didn't edit the canvis size it would look like a magazine cover because size has an important part to play when making a cover it can choose what type of cover you have double page and just a one page cover
How i changed the canvis size was i clicked on image on the top of the page and i selected canvis size this helped me change the size of the canvis for the right size for my magazine cover
The effect this will have is that people will be able to understand what type of magazine cover it is also that people know that it is not a double page cover

For this one i change the image to a black and white image i did this because i want my magazine cover to stand out because most magazine covers are in colour and basic but i wanted to try something different so that it can stand out to my target audience and other audiences so that it can be noticed really well this also creates a mysterybecause of the black and white and also because of the background

After making the magazine cover black and white all i had to do was add the text to really make it look like a magazine cover so i add stuff you would see in a magazine cover like the masthead and cover-lines and more to give it that magazine cover feeling and to do this it was really simple all i had to do was click the T symbol on the side to add a text anywhere on the magazine cover and on the right is where you can edit the text by changing the size the colour and even the font used on the text this is good and very usefully because i need the text to link with the hip-hop genre so that people can notice that this magazine cover belongs in the hip-hop genre
Final Production
For my final production i went to go edit it a bit more when adding the text they looked to basic and boring and it didn't really stand out much so i went to go look for custom fonts that could match the hip-hop genre For example the title i made the font different to stand out but i added more design to it the title the voice looked boring so i replaced the O with a disc instead just so that it would also make sense that it is music page magazine

The first major thing i really had to do was position the main photo for the double magazine cover and make sure i get it in a good position that is right for the audience and something that would also make sense to the audience i placed it on the right side because i feel like it is the more noticeable side because you read from right to left and also i wanted the image to stand out more than the text and for double magazine covers it is also more conman to see the image on the right side and the text on the right

I changed the background for the magazine this is because i didn't want a plain white background that wouldn't give any sort of meaning to the magazine even tho it isn't much of a big difference from white to grey i chose this grey because it matches the back ground in the photo so it creates a sense of cohesion for the people viewing the magazine seeing that things match up and it is just not a bunch of random colors to make the magazine look weird and like a mess the reason i didn't go with colors like black is because i wanted to keep the sense of cohesion because in the photo the background colors are grey and brown and grey would go well considering i wanted the background in the magazine to match the background in the photo.

Now i have started to add my text to finish up my magazine i added the title and the artist name on the magazine these are the two main text so i wanted these text to stand out as well and how i done that was i used a different font from the other text to make it stand out and also i used a different font color and i also wanted to keep up with the cohesion-es so i made the text the same color as the chair with is brown but it also matches with the brown background in the back

After i finished with the title and the artist name all i had to do was add the rest of the information like the artist interview and page number i made the text color black so it can match with my artist outfit because there is also black in the photo and it is one of the main colors in the photo so it would make sense if everything in the magazine was matching the photo as well to give it that nice look
Final Production
This was my final production for my magazine cover at the end i had to add more details to really give it that magazine affect stuff like the page number pull out quote and more one main thing that i do like about my magazine cover is the layout of the cover i like how the two images are positioned
Another thing that i really like about my magazine is the color way for major text that i want to stand out i made the color brown the reason for this was to keep cohesion this is because the color of the chair is brown if i made these text black it wouldn't stand out as much because it would be the same color as the text but because i made it bro it has a different font different size and different color to the rest of the text
Another way i kept cohesion is the background that is behind the text is made as the same color as the back ground in the photo the reason i done this was because i feel like it could really fit in because they are both going to be the same background color so it would look better and also make sense
